The History and Philosophy of Ablecare.
Ablecare was established in 1996 by Natalie Hennessy who recognised the need to provide quality focused care and support to people with special needs. She believed that with therapy and support, the lives of individuals can always be improved regardless of age, disability or illness. She became disheartened with the approach to disability and rehabilitation that gave up too easily or simply did not see therapy as an option for many people with severe injuries or needs. Therapy and Support can be integrated into lifestyle and by providing ongoing supports people can continue to achieve success and goals in their lives..... We have many stories of achievement and of sadness to share. The journey through life for many of these children and families has been tragic and difficult from their first breath. We see the courage and determination to succeed, and the desperate pain of failure....but each day brings hope and our belief in the determination of the human spirit, capacity and ability to overcome all obstacles. One such story is of a young girl who had sustained a head injury in a car accident at the age of 9 years. After 6 months of hospital care and treatment her family was told she would never improve and she would spend the rest of life unable to walk, talk, feed herself . The only movement she could control was her elbow movement on one arm...and so therapy started there. With 3 years of training and support she was able to communicate with eye pointing and could drive an electric wheelchair in a straight line......How much more could she achieve ? Who cares if it takes 10 years to improve her independence ? or 20 Years ? she will only be 29 years and have a lifetime ahead of her...But without therapy she would have been left to lie in a vegetative state in a nursing home....the choices are heartbreaking when therapy is not available. Ablecare believes in working with an individual towards their personal goals...no matter how difficult or distant they may seem. We need your support to continue our work and research into developing effective therapy and treatment for the children, adults and families we support. One person does make a difference. That person could be you. WHO WE WORK WITH ..... | ||
